Slovenia sits to the northwest of Croatia and is an ideal choice for a day trip, especially if you are interested in alpine sights. Any season can provide engaging locations, with emerald green rivers in the alpine region, sprawling flowery meadows on rolling hills, tall forests and secluded waterfalls.
As it is difficult to see and photograph it all in a single day, we give you the option to choose your favorites: below are our suggestions of must-see locations, which can be paired to your liking. We can realistically only do two per day, so if you'd like more, we can plan to stay overnight as well. The Slovenia Photo Tour is adaptable to your time frame and interests, just like any of our tours.
Combine any two of these options for a single day Slovenia Photo Tour:
LJUBLJANA - the Slovenian capital, a very green and enjoyable town, with a castle guarding over it. Nestled around the Ljubljanica River, it offers many cute bridges for strolling both banks, weaving in and out of the old town streets. Green market, cute shops, street art interventions on older buildings, bar terraces, churches and parks - everything needed for street photography.
BLED AND BOHINJ - about an hour north of the capital, Bled town and the same name lake are an entrance to the Alpine region of Slovenia. You can enjoy panoramic views of the lake and mountains from the castle, stroll around the lake and wait for the perfect afternoon light on the Assumption of Maria church on the only lake island. Time permitting, we can visit the next lake Bohinj, completely surrounded by tall Alpine mountains, and ride a cable car to get to the perfect vantage point.
POSTOJNA CAVE AND PREDJAMA CASTLE - one of the largest accessible caves in the region, Postojna offers a myriad of stalagmites and stalactites, illuminated with colors. Part of the cave tour is via a train ride. Although attractive, there is no photography allowed in the cave, but if you are quick, you can manage to squeeze off a few shots, providing there is enough light (no tripods allowed). Moving beyond the cave, we can tour Predjama castle, built into the side of a mountain, housing many stories of its former occupants.
RAKOV ŠKOCJAN - close to Postojna and Predjama, this nature park is centered around the Rak stream, which surfaces from a cave in the east of the valley and disappears into another at the western end. A cave collapse offered stunning light and ambiance, wonderful in any season.
All levels of photography experience are welcome, the tour leader will adapt to your knowledge and needs. Bring comfortable shoes for walking. Stone surfaces may be slippery if wet. Your camera bag, tripod and any other equipment should not be too heavy or large. Avoid rolling photo bags, use smaller backpacks. Polarizing and ND filters, as well as macro lenses are welcome, but not necessary. Tour can be customized to offer sunrise photography at a location in Slovenia.
What better way is there to see Croatia than with a photographer whose job is to travel and explore. Igor Nobilo made photography his profession over 20 years ago. Since then he has traveled extensively across Croatia and beyond on assignments and for fun. He has a passion for reportage and exploring the world around us, while his photojournalism background provides great flexibility for many situations. He hold the title of Master Photographer, able to provide a wide range of educational and practical lessons.
We can customize the tour to fit your preferences and rearrange the itinerary for the best experiences.
